The Great State of Maine

(USNewsReport.org) – Have you ever wanted to travel to the East Coast? View the Atlantic Ocean and maybe check out some of the original 13 states? Take Maine, the 23rd US state, located at the furthest north point of the United States. Though it may not get much time in the news, both its location and rich history are worth exploring.

If you’re an early riser, check out Eastport. A stay in this city can gain you bragging rights. Because of its location, you can boast to all your friends and family about being the first to see the sun rise in the US.

Maybe you’re a history buff. Check out York, which in 1641, was the very first city to become chartered in America and then incorporated in 1642. It’s also home to the nation’s first sawmill, erected in 1623. Or how about visiting one of our lesser known, temporary capitals, Portland. To avoid breaking any laws, make sure your shoes are tied and you don’t tickle any girls under the chin with a feather duster while you’re there.

Looking for good cuisine? If you enjoy seafood, that shouldn’t be a problem. Maine is home to 90% of the nation’s supply of lobster. They also produce 99% of all blueberries sold in the US. Over in Wilton you can pick up canned dandelion greens while in Huberson you can eat potatoes. Just make sure if you have more than 5 in one meal that you share with your pigs. If you’re looking to see some really interesting food head over to Blue Hill. George Stevens Academy has a Twinkie on display that started out as a chemistry lesson in 1976, but is known now as the “World’s Oldest Twinkie”.

There’s a lot of coastline, dotted with numerous beautiful and historic lighthouses but, one thing you will not see is billboards. Nor will you see people walking their alligators in public, blowing their noses in public in Waterville, strolling down the street playing their violins in Augusta, or people pushing live moose out of planes.

So, have a great time, enjoy the coastline and the lobster. Just remember, don’t wear your helmet while driving your car and, if you decide to attend church on Sunday bring your shotgun; it’s the law, in case Native Americans attack.
